Relatives Mourn Mine Blast Victims

Distraught wives, mothers and friends of 81 miners killed in twin explosions at a Ukrainian mine gathered to identify the dead, and Fuel and Energy Minister Serhiy Tulub said violations of basic safety rules were to blame for the blasts. He vowed to punish those responsible for what he said was the nation’s worst disaster since the country gained independence from the then-Soviet Union in 1991. The blast tore through the Barakov mine in Krasnodon, about 450 miles southeast of Kiev, the capital, on Saturday.
