The City Council recently decided to consider an ordinance that would offer the owners of historic properties incentives to preserve them.

The city may spend up to $18,270 to have Hogle-Ireland, a planning consultant, draw up an ordinance after several workshops with the Planning Commission and owners of historic properties. A study done with the state Office of Historic Preservation showed that there are 96 structures in the city that are at least 50 years old.
