Sailor Killed in Car Crash Identified
CAMARILLO — The 30-year-old Navy sailor who died this week after losing control of his car and crashing into a boulder was identified Wednesday as Patrick Sulit Nazareno, authorities said.
Nazareno died about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday after crashing his Acura on a curve on Potrero Road near Hueneme Road in Camarillo, authorities said. After striking a boulder on the shoulder of the road, the Acura flipped.
Nazareno, who was in uniform and on his way to work when the crash occurred, was an electronics technician at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme, said Linda Wadley, a base spokeswoman. He joined the Navy in July 1988.
Nazareno had recently moved from Hawaii to Camarillo and was in combat skills training, Wadley said. His wife, who was in Hawaii at the time of the crash, was notified late Tuesday along with Nazareno’s parents, who were vacationing in Las Vegas.
Services were still being planned Wednesday, but Wadley said a military funeral would likely be held at the base.
