Marine Questioned in Shootings
Military police questioned a Camp Pendleton Marine on Saturday after a sniper caused terror on the San Diego Freeway, firing small-caliber rounds that struck six cars in a half hour, authorities said.
In an unrelated incident, military detectives are also investigating a knife fight on the base Saturday that left one soldier dead and another injured, said Marine Staff Sgt. Kyle Olson.
The identity of the slain Marine was withheld, pending notification of his family, and officials released few details on what led to his death. The injured soldier is considered a suspect in the slaying.
The first Marine was apprehended after frantic calls from freeway drivers to the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. Friday. Motorists told dispatchers that passing vehicles were being struck and damaged by something.
