The city took in more money from tourism-related taxes than it did in property taxes this fiscal year.
Rosalind Williams of the Conference and Visitor’s Bureau last week presented the City Council with a mock $21 million check to illustrate the city’s tourism dollars.
A larger advertising budget and a hike in hotel rates were responsible for the increase from $20 million last year, she said.
“The average rate people are paying to stay in hotels has increased to $140,” Williams said, adding that this means more tax revenue for the city.
