YORBA LINDA
The city may have to renew its search for a skate park site if it fails to settle a lawsuit with the Placentia-Yorba Linda School District.
The Parks and Recreation Department had recommended the area behind City Hall as the best location for the park. But officials at the school district, which owns the property, will not discuss selling the parcel until the city discusses settlement options.
The school district filed a lawsuit against the city’s Redevelopment Agency in October, alleging that the agency had “systematically underpaid the school district by millions of dollars over a period of several years.”
Supt. James O. Fleming said it’s important for the district to resolve the lawsuit before it starts discussing uses for the land it owns.
“If we’re going to talk about facilities, why not talk about the money that they owe us?” he said. “It has been my advice and the legal counsel’s advice that we don’t sit down and piecemeal issues till the matter is settled.”
