The need for new schools in Los Angeles and proposals to provide them will be the topics for an educational seminar presented Wednesday by the Urban Land Institute of Los Angeles.

The event will focus on proposed legislative and regulatory changes that would facilitate public-private partnerships to finance schools, along with reports on what’s being done by the Los Angeles Unified School District, the mayor’s office and educational organizations to address the need for more schools.

Speakers will include David A. Abel, publisher of the Planning Report; O’Malley Miller, chairman of Mayor Richard Riordan’s Primary Centers Task Force; Steven W. Ross, director of planning and entitlements for Playa Vista; William Siart, chairman of Excellent Educational Development; and David D. Wald, consulting director of real estate for LAUSD. James Goodell will moderate the panel.
