ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Kristina Hyllested
Rancho Alamitos, Softball
In the Garden Grove League, where Pacifica has been the dominant team in recent years, it’s big news when another team breaks through. And Hyllested helped Rancho Alamitos win the league title this season, but the Vaqueros didn’t go through the back door. She pitched a 12-inning four-hitter to beat Pacifica last week, 1-0 to clinch the title, then added a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over La Quinta.

Southern Section Division II finals Saturday. He set a Division II record in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 49.40 seconds, and came within .05 seconds of the 100 butterfly record, winning in 48.82. Cavic will try to qualify for the Yugolavian Olympic team this summer.
