Crash Kills Passenger in Thousand Oaks
An 18-year-old Glendale man was killed early Sunday when he was ejected from a vehicle that veered off the Ventura Freeway in Thousand Oaks.
Hamoon Hajianpour, a passenger in the back seat of a Jeep Wrangler driven by Glendale resident Nestor Sala, died at the scene, authorities said.
Sala, 18, was driving north on the freeway about 2:30 a.m. when his Jeep drifted onto the right shoulder near the Moorpark Road exit, plowed through two chain-link fences and became airborne.
The vehicle then struck an unoccupied parked car before coming to rest in a parking lot in the 200 block of Lombard Street, authorities said. Hajianpour, who was not wearing a seat belt, died of blunt force head injuries, the Ventura County coroner’s office reported.
Sala, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where he was treated and released. Another passenger, 17-year-old Glendale resident Alan Scandar, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the same hospital and released.
Authorities suspect that Sala fell asleep at the wheel.
