ACLU Suit
Re “ACLU Sues State Over Conditions in Poor Schools,” May 18: As a taxpayer, I resent the ACLU’s suit. As a citizen, I resent the necessity for the suit. There is no justification for the LAUSD having any school fitting the criteria of the suit other than incompetence, bad management and just plain not giving a damn. No excuse is possible for any member of the school board, the administration, or those of us in the public who permit these conditions to exist.
The lack of toilet facilities is just as important as the lack of books. Yet there are books, desks and all manner of other equipment left to rot in the weather because the administration is too uncaring to put it under cover. Supplies are purchased at prices higher than normal retail.
The Legislature is considering creating a monitoring system. It can’t come soon enough.
