Comedian Is Moving to New Digs on the Peninsula

Actor-comedian-TV host Roseanne and her husband and former bodyguard Ben Thomas have purchased a home on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for $6.5 million.

The couple put their Beverly Hills-area home on the market in December at slightly more than $8.9 million. They also have a home at Lake Arrowhead, and he has a retreat in El Segundo.

The Emmy-winning actress, who starred in her own comedy series from 1988 to 1997, made her stage debut in 1997 as the Wicked Witch in a New York City production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

Roseanne, 47, started hosting a syndicated talk show in 1998. Earlier this year, she was working on an album featuring a duet with Coolio to benefit Children of the Night. Roseanne has five children, including a son with Thomas. The couple married in 1995.

Their Palos Verdes home, which is on nearly three acres in a gated community, was built in the mid-’80s and has five bedrooms in about 10,000 square feet. The home also has a pool.

Dwayne Hickman, who starred in the ‘60s sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” (still in syndication), and his older brother, Darryl, who gained fame in such movies as “The Grapes of Wrath” (1940), grew up in a Los Feliz home that has come on the market at $699,000.

The Hickman family lived in the home during the ‘40s and ‘50s. Darryl Hickman, who started acting at age 3 and was in more than 100 films, including “Network” (1976), owned the house as a minor. Dwayne Hickman was a regular on the UPN sitcom “Clueless” (1996-’99).

Built in 1922, the 2,400-square-foot house has three bedrooms, a den and an outside fountain. It was recently remodeled and restored by its owners, Richard Stanley and Marc Janvier, who share the listing at Coldwell Banker, Los Feliz.

Producer Jack H. Harris and his wife, author and lecturer Judith Parker Harris, have listed their Beverly Hills townhouse at just under $1 million.

He produced “The Blob” (1958), its 1988 sequel and 31 other movies, including “The Eyes of Laura Mars” (1978), starring Tommy Lee Jones.

His wife, a motivational speaker, wrote “Conquer Crisis With Health Esteem,” and conducts workshops and seminars based on the workbook.

Their condo has three bedrooms in about 3,000 square feet. The Harrises have owned the unit, built about 15 years ago, for 11 years.

They plan to move to a home they own in Malibu.

“We decided to simplify our lives,” she said.
