Orange Officer Hurt in Crash
A rookie Orange police officer suffered minor injuries in a weekend traffic collision at Katella Avenue and Glassell Street in Orange, authorities said Monday.
Neither the Police Department nor the California Highway Patrol would release the name of the officer, who was eastbound on Katella Avenue at 10:51 p.m. Sunday.
The officer, who has been on the force for six months, was hit by a motorist who drove through a red light southbound on Glassell Street, said police Lt. Jim Hudson.
“The force of the collision knocked the officer’s vehicle into a tree on Katella,” Hudson said. Both the officer and the other driver were treated for minor injuries, Hudson said.
“He had a few scratches. He was very lucky,” said Sgt. John Richard. The officer should be back at work in two or three days, Richard said.
The CHP is investigating the accident, which does not appear to be alcohol-related, Hudson said.
