Attendance Hits a Milestone

Major league baseball reached 20 million in attendance this season faster than in any other year in history.

The 20-million mark was surpassed during Sunday’s games, the first time the milestone was reached before Memorial Day. It took 727 games to reach 20 million, breaking the previous record of 764 games in 1998.

Attendance through Sunday’s games was 20.4 million, a 5.9% increase over last season.

Roger Clemens waited his whole career for a World Series championship ring. Now, he’ll have to wait a little bit longer to get one with the right number.

When the New York Yankees were presented with their jewelry Monday, there was a mix-up that resulted in Clemens getting a ring inscribed with No. 33--David Wells’ old number--instead of Clemens’ No. 22.

“Yeah, mine and a few others were messed up, five or six of them,” Clemens said before Tuesday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics. “I heard they had the same problem last year.

“But that’s all right. I assume I’ll get the right one soon enough.”

Clemens wore No. 12 for the first part of last season, then changed to No. 22 in July because that’s the number his 13-year-old son, Koby, wore in Little League.
