CBS Cancels ‘City of Angels’ After Failing to Attract Large Audience
“City of Angels,” CBS’ drama about an inner-city hospital and the only prime time network drama to feature a predominantly African American cast, has been canceled.
CBS and the show’s producer, Steven Bochco, could not be reached for comment. Several original episodes of the series have yet to air, and it has not been announced when the show will go off the air.
Situated in a difficult 9 p.m. Thursday time slot opposite NBC’s “Will & Grace” and ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” “City of Angels” has failed to attract a large audience, ranking as Viacom-owned CBS’ lowest-rated prime-time series this season, averaging 7.4 million viewers.
Despite heavy promotion, several cast changes and shifts in creative direction, the show has struggled ever since its premiere in January.
The cancellation comes during the November ratings sweeps. CBS is once again in fourth place among adults age 18 to 49--the demographic most sought by advertisers.
