Dollase Ruling Expected Today
DEL MAR — After a 45-minute hearing Wednesday, Del Mar stewards Ingrid Fermin, Dave Samuel and George Slender are expected to issue a ruling today regarding possible sanctions for trainer Craig Dollase.
Abby Girl, a 3-year-old filly trained by Dollase, tested positive for albuterol, a drug administered in nasal spray form that is not permitted to be in a horse’s system on race day, after winning the Railbird Stakes on May 20 at Hollywood Park.
The stewards have already disqualified Abby Girl, who is owned by Stephan Herold, and ordered that the purse money from the Railbird be redistributed. In the revised order of finish, the new winner is Cover Gal. Wired To Fly was moved up to second, Classic Olympio placed third and Miss Pixie fourth.

Silic, who won the 1999 Breeders’ Cup Mile, has been retired, according to trainer Julio Canani.
A bone chip was recently discovered in the 5-year-old’s left front leg while he was preparing for Sunday’s $1-million Atto Mile at Woodbine, which was going to be his last race before he tried to defend his title in the BC Mile on Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs.
Silic, a two-time winner of the Shoemaker Breeders’ Cup Mile at Hollywood Park who is owned by Terry Lanni, Ken Poslosky and Bernie Schiappa, finished his career with eight victories in 15 starts and earned more than $1.4 million. Although plans on where he will stand at stud haven’t been finalized, there is a strong possibility he could wind up in Japan.

Tranquility Lake, who would have been a short-priced favorite in Saturday’s $400,000 Ramona Handicap, will miss the Grade I, Canani said Wednesday.
According to the trainer, the 5-year-old Rahy mare was bitten by either a spider or a mosquito. Her temperature rose to 103 degrees late Tuesday afternoon and her right front leg swelled considerably.
Her temperature was normal Wednesday and the swelling had gone down, but she won’t be able to make amends in the Ramona, a race in which she was the beaten favorite last year.
Even in the absence of the multiple stakes winner, Canani and owners Marty and Pam Wygod will be represented in the Ramona by Sweet Life. Caffe Latte, Tout Charmant, Alexine, Keemoon and Miss Of Wales are also expected to start.
