San Clemente Suffers More Player Losses
The football season hasn’t even started for San Clemente, but the news keeps getting worse for the Tritons, ranked sixth in the county.
Already stung by the loss of starting quarterback Dan Coviello, who is out for the season with a knee injury, the Tritons lost two more projected starters--defensive back/wingback Bryan Peters and running back Darin Covey--for the year.
San Clemente Coach Eric Patton said Peters, who was transferring from Capistrano Valley Christian, was declared ineligible at San Clemente by the Southern Section. Peters, who played at Capistrano Valley Christian last year and Santa Margarita as a freshman, will instead play this season at Capistrano Valley, the school of his attendance area. Covey, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior, quit the team last week.
Coviello, a two-year-starter, suffered a knee injury while riding a motorcycle three weeks ago. He will be replaced by sophomore Beau Budde, a 6-1, 175-pound sophomore.
The Tritons play their opener at Lake Elsinore Friday night.
