Food Pyramid
* Re “The Food Pyramid: Does It Miss the Point?” Sept. 1:
The resounding answer to your question is yes. As the number of Americans with obesity and related chronic illnesses such as coronary artery disease, hypertension and diabetes increases, it is distressing to know that academics are arguing the food pyramid. This is with the knowledge that the “pyramid diet has little or no effect on health.”
Let’s stop rearranging the deck chairs as the health of our nation plummets and focus on proven methods of changing behavior and lifestyle. We need more attention and resources directed to nutrition and exercise programs. We need to put our money where our mouth is.
