Performance artist and singer Stephanie Glass will present “Jazz, Gender and Justice” Saturday at Cal State Northridge. Glass uses multimedia projections from the Center for Political Graphics, visuals by well-known designers and photojournalists, plus music by the Gary Nestaruk Jazz Ensemble as a backdrop to her original piece that explores life in contemporary culture.

Symphony

The San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra will open its 2000-01 season with an all-Brahms program Saturday at Pierce College. Music Director James Domine will lead the ensemble in the “Academic Festival” Overture and Symphony No. 1 in C minor.

Autumnfest

The Scandinavian Autumnfest will celebrate its 50th anniversary Sunday at Vasa Park in Agoura Hills. Swimming, games, traditional music and folk-dancing will be featured. In addition, there will be demonstrations of woodcarving, weaving and rosemaling, Scandinavian folk-painting.

Concert

Jazz singer Toni Jannotta will give a free concert Sunday at the Peter Strauss Ranch in Agoura. Jannotta, who sings in straight-ahead vocalese style, will be accompanied by Ken Rosser on guitar, Carey Christensen on bass, Chuck Manning on tenor sax and Mike Faue on drums and percussion.
