Cleveland 28, Grant 23--Perry Clayton had 337 yards and two touchdowns in 31 carries but host Grant couldn’t hold off the Cavaliers, who scored 21 consecutive points in little more than one quarter in a nonleague game.
Clayton scored on runs of 77 and five yards.
Cleveland’s Ronnie Lyons scored on a one-yard run with 6:19 remaining to pull the Cavaliers (3-1) within 23-21, and scored on a four-yard run with 30 seconds to play.
Lyons finished with 158 yards in 31 carries.
Antwine Barfield of Cleveland completed five of 11 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Barfield’s 45-yard pass play to Randy Bundy with two seconds remaining in the third quarter started the comeback.
For Grant (1-3), Alfonso Estrada completed five of 13 passes for 65 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown to Nick Issac in the third quarter that gave the Lancers a 23-7 lead.
