Woman’s Club Closes With $45,000 Donation
Closing down after nearly 80 years, the Tarzana Woman’s Club completed its last activity Friday--donating $45,000 to the Pierce College nursing program.
Membership has been dwindling, and the decision was made in May to disband. “We’re just getting too old and crotchety,” said club Treasurer Jeanne Anderson, 74.
The donation, which consists of nearly all the money in the club’s treasury, will be used to buy textbooks for nursing students.
Marsha Soboh of the Pierce College Foundation said she was struck by the club’s reluctance to publicize its donation. “They wanted to quietly come in, give us the money and then leave,” Soboh said.
