Peace Urged Following Gang Shooting
Residents of Willowbrook looked on as members of the Networks Organizing for Gang Unity and Neighborhood Safety walked the block urging peace in the wake of a gang-related gun battle Wednesday through Compton and Willowbrook that left a father and daughter dead and two teenagers in serious condition, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Stephen Murphy, 24, an airport worker, was showing off his 2 1/2-year-old daughter Kali to his grandmother when he and the child were killed by gunfire from passing cars, deputies said.
One of the wounded, a 19-year-old male, is believed to have been a gang member, deputies said.
A fund for the family was set up at Washington Mutual bank. Donations to the Kali M. Murphy and Stephen R. Murphy II Benevolent Fund can be sent to P.O. Box 30810, Los Angeles, CA 90030-0810. The contact is Coffi West at (310) 863-8200.
