Boeing to Expand Satellite Factory
Boeing Co. will expand a satellite production factory in El Segundo by about 30% as it transfers work from another plant.
The factory has orders to make more than 38 satellites and will add orders for 12 Air Force Block IIF global positioning satellites, which were to be made at a plant in Seal Beach, Boeing said.
Seattle-based Boeing acquired the El Segundo factory when it bought Hughes Electronics Corp.’s satellite-making business last year. Boeing said at the time that it would probably shift work to the Hughes facility from Seal Beach.
Boeing shares fell 66 cents to close at $53.34 on the New York Stock Exchange.
