From Times Staff Reports

Police searched with helicopters, dogs and infrared devices late Thursday for a driver who led them on a short pursuit, then disappeared.

The man failed to stop about 8:30 p.m. when an officer tried to pull him over for speeding along Ortega Highway about five miles north of the Santa Ana Freeway, said Officer Katrina Lundgren of the California Highway Patrol.

The man drove 25 mph to 40 mph before turning onto a small road near Antonio Parkway in an unincorporated area of San Juan Capistrano, where the officer lost sight of him, Lundgren said.
