DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler unit will add four minivan models by October to compete with Honda Motor Co. vehicles and attract buyers who want lower-priced versions.

The 2002 models, to begin production next month, are the Chrysler Voyager eC, Dodge Caravan eC, Chrysler Town & Country eL and Dodge Grand Caravan eL, the fifth-largest auto maker’s Chrysler Group said. Starting prices range from $16,995 for the Voyager and Caravan to $24,330 for the Town & Country. With the additions, Chrysler will have 21 minivan models.

Chrysler is the largest seller of minivans, though it faces increasing competition from rivals such as Honda and Toyota Motor Corp. In the U.S., Chrysler this year through July sold 270,179 of the vehicles, down 10% from the year-earlier period.
