Rock & Roll Manners at the Bowl

“‘We don’t even care what the music is,’ said Don Getz” (“The Picnic Bowl,” Aug. 22). That is exactly why I am no longer a patron of the Hollywood Bowl. (It is also why I go to movies before noon on weekdays.) The audiences at the Bowl have become like rock concert audiences, constantly talking, eating, crackling plastic bags and papers and coming and going during the music, which--imagine this!--is why I go there.

I grant you that I have enjoyed a repast and some nice wine before a performance, but I was always extremely careful to be quiet and not bothersome to those around me. Audience courtesy, in general, has gone the way of society’s manners and consideration--out the door.
