Convicted Man Sues His Lawyer
George Lopez, a Garden Grove man convicted of an armed robbery to which another man has since confessed, has filed a malpractice suit against his defense lawyer.
In a complaint made public Tuesday, Lopez accuses lawyer Charles K. Stoddard and the firm for which he works with failing to investigate and argue his case adequately. Lopez, 19, alleges that he never would have been convicted if the lawyer had done a better job.
Lopez appealed his conviction and 13-year prison sentence after a convicted robber confessed to the crime. Lopez remains in custody.
