Air Canada Championship

Site: Surrey, British Columbia.

Schedule: Today-Sunday.

Course: Northview Golf and Country Club (7,065 yards, par 71).

Purse: $3.4 million. Winner’s share: $612,000.

Television: ESPN (Today-Friday, noon-3 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 1-3 p.m.).

Last year: South Africa’s Rory Sabbatini won his first tour title, closing with a 30-foot birdie putt for a one-stroke victory over New Zealand’s Grant Waite.

Last week: Tiger Woods won the NEC Invitational for the third consecutive year, beating Jim Furyk with a birdie on the seventh extra hole--the longest playoff on tour in 10 years. Woods, 25, has five victories this year and 29 overall, tying Jack Nicklaus for the most tour victories before age 30. Woods earned $1 million .... John Cook won the Reno-Tahoe Open for his 11th title, finishing with a 64 and capitalizing on Jerry Kelly’s late triple bogey.

Notes: Woods is skipping the tournament. He’s expected to defend his Canadian Open title next week at Royal Montreal, and will play the American Express Championship the following week at Bellerive in St. Louis .... Canadian star Mike Weir won the 1999 tournament for the first of his two tour titles. The Ontario native also took the $1-million first-place check in the 2000 American Express Championship at Valderrama in Spain .... Aaron Baddeley, the 20-year-old Australian who won the Australian Open as an amateur and pro the last two seasons, is making his ninth PGA Tour start of the year. He has made only two cuts and has earned $19,435.

LPGA TOUR

State Farm Classic

Site: Springfield, Ill.

Schedule: Today-Sunday.

Course: The Rail Golf Club (6,403 yards, par 72).

Purse: $1 million. Winner’s share: $150,000.

Television: ESPN2 (Friday, 10 a.m.-noon; Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and ESPN (Sunday, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.).

Last year: Laurel Kean won her first tour title, shooting three consecutive 66s for a six-stroke victory.

Last week: Heather Daly-Donofrio won her first title, beating Mhairi McKay and Moira Dunn by a stroke in the Betsy King Classic.

Notes: Annika Sorenstam is making her 20th start of the season. She took last week off after winning the Women’s Canadian Open for her sixth victory of the year. The Swede tops the money list with $1,506,209 and has a 70-point lead over Se Ri Pak in the player-of-the-year standings

SENIOR PGA TOUR

Kroger Senior Classic

Site: Mason, Ohio.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: Jack Nicklaus Sports Center in Kings Island, Grizzly Course (6,639 yards, par 70).

Purse: $1.5 million. Winner’s share: $225,000.

Television: PAX (Friday, 10 a.m.-noon) and CNBC (Saturday-Sunday, 3-5 p.m.).

Last year: Hubert Green won the second of two 2000 titles, closing with a 64 to hold off Larry Nelson by a stroke.

Last week: Walter Hall won his first tour title after six runner-up finishes, beating Ed Dougherty on the first hole of a playoff in the AT&T; Canada Senior Open. Hall is the tour’s record fourth consecutive first-time winner.

Notes: The tournament, played at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Grizzly course since 1990, will move to the Tournament Players Club at River’s Bend next year. The TPC course opened in July .... Don Pooley is making his senior debut. He won twice on the PGA Tour.
