Mother in Internet Twins Case Is Indicted

A 29-year-old woman whose twin girls were caught in a transatlantic tug of war after their adoption was arranged through contacts found on the Internet was indicted for welfare fraud.

Tranda Wecker of O’Fallon, Mo., was named by a federal grand jury in a 10-count indictment on charges of defrauding a federal housing rent program and making fraudulent applications for unemployment checks and for food stamps.

If convicted of the fraud charges, Wecker could be sentenced to as much as 50 years in prison.
