Holy Land Foundation’s Assets Frozen by Bush

I am writing in response to “FBI Links Islamic Charity to Calls to Kill Israelis” (Dec. 6), regarding the raising of funds by the Holy Land Foundation in Los Angeles to “finish off the Israelis” and “kill them all.” This is an atrocity. The Muslims should be ashamed.

As a Jew living in Los Angeles, how can I be expected to view my “fellow” citizens who are Muslims as peace-loving people and embrace them? This saddens me, and I am mourning the loss of my innocence in believing in the good of mankind. I weep for all of us.

The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a tax-exempt, charitable organization registered with the IRS, allegedly funneled millions of dollars to Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group. President Bush announced on Dec. 4 that he has shut down the Holy Land Foundation. On Dec. 5, the home of the San Diego director of the Holy Land Foundation was defaced. Local government announced that it would prosecute the perpetrators of this hate crime to the full extent of the law.

Forgive me, but the perpetrators were following the president’s example. He spurned the Bill of Rights. Without protection from unreasonable seizure, due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, our nation is governed by whims. The Supreme Court should challenge the president and stop his overreaching, preferably long before we become another dictatorship like the Taliban.
