Pitino, Nevada Las Vegas Talks Heating Up

Nevada Las Vegas’ courtship of Rick Pitino heated up Friday when the former Boston Celtic coach met with university president Carol Harter to discuss the Runnin’ Rebels coaching position.

Harter said discussions over the coaching position would continue.

Maryland is negotiating a settlement with a Duke player’s mother who was struck by a bottle thrown by a Terrapin fan. Maryland athletic officials said Renee Boozer, the mother of Duke center Carlos Boozer, wants compensation from the university after suffering a concussion at the end of the Jan. 27 game, which Duke won in overtime, 98-96, at Cole Field House. . . . Cleveland State gave Coach Rollie Massimino a four-year contract extension through the 2004-05 season.
