Polanco Seeks to Remove Name From Race
State Sen. Richard Polanco, who announced last week that he was dropping out of the race for a City Council seat, filed the paperwork Tuesday that will take his name off the April ballot in the 1st District.
The remaining candidates in the race are attorney Fumio Robert Nakahiro, college professor David Sanchez and Eduardo Reyes, who is former chief of staff to outgoing Councilman Mike Hernandez.
Polanco, 49, originally stated that he no longer sought the council seat because he wished to fulfill his Senate commitments. His office later said the senator was interested in moving to the private sector. An aide said Polanco was reconsidering several lucrative overtures from private companies.
