‘Aida’ at the Bowl

Mark Swed’s practice of the art of criticism (“An Amped-Up ‘Aida’ at the Bowl,” July 10) leaves me with the simultaneous feelings of actually having been at the performance, and relief that I was not.

Placido Domingo could take some pointers from John Mauceri on how to conduct “Aida.” The Bowl performance was magnificent. Perhaps Swed was sitting too close to the speakers. If he were part of the main audience, as I was, he might have enjoyed the performance, as I did.

Being a critic doesn’t mean you have to criticize, just give an honest review.
