Activist’s Mother Shot Dead on Farm
Armed gunmen shot and killed the mother of a prominent opposition activist who was killed last year on the same farm about 45 miles from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city.
Three armed men, believed to be members of the Zimbabwean National Liberation War Veterans Assn., killed Gloria Olds, 65, said David Coltart, a family friend and legislator for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.
In April, Olds’ son Martin, 42, was shot dead in an assault at the farmhouse. Militants and veterans of the country’s independence war, which ended in l980, began seizing white-owned farms last year.
