Summers Tapped for Harvard Presidency
BOSTON — Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers has been recommended to be the next president of Harvard University, according to the school’s newspaper.
The presidential search committee’s recommendation must still be approved by the university’s Board of Overseers, and a formal announcement could come as soon as this weekend, the Harvard Crimson reported Friday on its Web site. Harvard spokesman Joe Wrinn said the university would not comment on the Crimson’s report.
Summers, when reached at his Maryland home Friday night, also refused to comment. Summers, 46, is a prominent economist and former Harvard professor.
