Crescenta Valley Beats Glendora, 2-0
Melanie McCauley’s two-run home run gave Meredith Cervenka the lead before she stepped in the circle to pitch a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts Wednesday in Crescenta Valley High’s a 2-0 victory over Glendora in a nonleague softball game at Glendora.
Cervenka (4-1) allowed a leadoff single in the first inning, and yielded a one-out walk in the second. She had the only other hit for Crescenta Valley (4-1), leading off the fourth with a single.
Rachel Connors (1-1) struck out five and walked one for Glendora (4-1).
Glendale 10, Verdugo Hills 0--Kristine Rader and Priscilla Lopez each had three hits and Kelsey Boggs added two hits for the Dynamiters (1-4) in a first-round game of the Hoover tournament at Glendale High.
Paraclete 3, Alemany 0--Catherine Buttrey had a run-scoring triple and a run-scoring single for the Spirits (2-0) in a nonleague game at Paraclete.
Sara Gonzales (2-0) pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk.
BOYS’ TRACK
Thousand Oaks 107, Simi Valley 29--Makisi Haleck won the pole vault with a school record of 15-6 to highlight the Lancers’ victory in a Marmonte League opener at Moorpark High.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Westlake 13, Agoura 5--Aaron Bert defeated two of three opponents by 6-0 scores for the Warriors (5-0) at No. 1 singles in a Marmonte League match at Agoura (4-1).
El Camino Real 7, North Hollywood 0--Matt Jones, James Magsino and Dan Nguyen each lost only one game in singles for the defending City Champion Conquistadores (3-0) in a nonleague match at El Camino Real.
BOYS’ GOLF
Westlake 335, Calabasas 359, Newbury Park 398--Brian O’Flaherty shot three-under-par 64 for Westlake (7-1) in a nonleague match at Westlake Village Golf Course.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Verdugo Hills def. Franklin, 6-15, 15-7, 7-15, 15-13, 15-7--Ariosto Martinez had 19 kills, 21 digs and four blocks for the Dons (2-0) in a nonleague match at Franklin.
Taft def. Monroe, 12-15, 15-3, 16-14, 15-17, 16-14--Bryan Capper had 36 kills and 12 digs for the Toreadors, who fought off four match points before winning a nonleague match at Taft.
Taft (2-0) has won 35 consecutive matches.
Royal def. Westlake, 15-7, 15-11, 15-7--David Russell had 24 kills and 11 digs as the Highlanders (9-1, 1-0) won their 90th consecutive Marmonte League match at Westlake.
Royal has not lost a league match since 1994.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Antelope Valley 5, Victor Valley 4--Tina Carillo, who was three for three with two runs batted in, singled home the winning run in the fourth inning for the Marauders (10-4, 2-0 in conference play) in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.
