Chapman Scores Early in 13-5 Win
Chapman scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 13-5 baseball victory over Claremont-Mudd Scripps Tuesday at Hart Park.
Alex Taylor went four for five and Kyle Schoonover had a bases-loaded triple for the Panthers (19-6).
In nonconference softball:
Fresno State 6-1, Cal State Fullerton 3-0--Lori Hoffman pitched a two-hitter and drove in two runs with a triple for Fresno State (25-10) in the first game. Monica Lucatero’s three-run homer in the third accounted for the offense for Fullerton (20-10).
Leslie Poole pitched a six-hitter in the second game for the Bulldogs.
In the UC Irvine Sheraton Spring Invitational women’s tennis tournament:
Oklahoma City 5, UC Irvine 2--Oklahoma City swept all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to win the title. UCI’s No. 1 player, Jonni Seymour, improved to 12-6 with a straight set victory over Anne Laure Leguennec.
In the Anteater Invitational golf championships:
UTEP wins--Led by medalist Nathan Fritz, who shot one-over 217 for three rounds, Texas El Paso won the 54-hole team championships at The Champions course at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club at Oak Valley with a score of 885. UC Irvine was sixth, 19 strokes off the lead, and the Anteaters’ Mike Lavery was 13th in individual scoring.
