Driver of Stolen SUV Killed in Crash
A man driving a stolen SUV was killed Tuesday west of downtown Los Angeles after he ran a stop sign and collided with several cars, police said.
The driver, Derrick Wallace, of Moreno Valley, was southbound on Sycamore Avenue when he ran a stop sign and was struck by a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Yong Sim Lee, 51, police said. The 2001 Chevrolet Blazer overturned as it struck several parked cars. Wallace, 37, was ejected at Sycamore and Eighth Street about 3:45 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Det. Marie Tucker.
Wallace was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said LAPD Officer Officer Hayley Purece. Lee was not injured and was not cited.
The Blazer was stolen from Walker Body Works of Los Angeles earlier in the day, she said.
