Metalclad’s Loss Shrinks to $1.8 Million
Metalclad Corp., a Newport Beach hazardous waste disposal company, said it lost $1.8 million, or 32 cents a share, last year compared with a net loss of $4.2 million, or $1.07 a share, for the previous year. Annual revenue rose 33% to $17.8 million. It did not provide quarterly results. The results include the cost of pursuing its claim against Mexico for seizing a landfill in San Luis Polosi but do not reflect either the value of the award, which is now $17.1 million, or further interest that accrues at a rate of $1 million a year. Metalclad won a $16.7-million award in a North American Free Trade Agreement arbitration, but Mexico has appealed. A decision on the appeal is expected soon.
