Last year: Phil Mickelson won the third of four 2000 titles, closing with a 63 for a two-stroke victory over Davis Love III and Stewart Cink.

Last week: Robert Damron birdied the fourth hole of a playoff with Scott Verplank to win the Byron Nelson Classic. Tiger Woods tied for third with David Duval and Nick Price.

Notes: Woods is skipping the tournament to play in Germany. . . . Bruce Lietzke is making his final PGA Tour start before joining the senior tour in late July. . . . Ben Hogan won his hometown event five times. . . . Australia’s Ian Baker-Finch, the 1989 winner, is making his first PGA Tour start since withdrawing from the 1997 British Open after an opening 92. . . . The Kemper Insurance Open is next week in Potomac, Md., followed by the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio.

Purse: $750,000. Winner’s share: $112,500.

TV: None.

Last year: Annika Sorenstam won the second of five 2000 titles, finishing with a 19-under 197 total to tie the tour record for relation to par in a 54-hole tournament. Karrie Webb and Cristie Kerr tied for second, one stroke back.

Last week: Juli Inkster won her 26th tour title, holding off Catriona Matthew by a stroke in the Electrolux USA in Franklin, Tenn. Sorenstam finished third, two strokes back.

Notes: Sorenstam has five victories and eight top-three finishes in nine events this year. The Swede leads the money list with $994,014, more than double second-place Se Ri Pak’s total of $447,431, and has a tour-best 68.90 scoring average. . . . Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson is skipping the tournament to defend her Italian Open title. . . . The Corning Classic is next week, followed by the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles in Southern Pines, N.C.

Last year: Dana Quigley birdied the final hole for a one-stroke victory over hometown favorite Tom Watson.

Last week: Leonard Thompson beat Argentina’s Vicente Fernandez, 2-up, in the final of the Enterprise Match Play in Augusta, Mo.

Notes: Jim Colbert, raised in Kansas City, shot a course-record 61 in the first round last year en route to a third-place finish. He won in 1991 and 1994 and has finished second three times. . . . The Senior PGA Championship is next week in Paramus, N.J., followed by the BellSouth Senior Classic in Nashville.
