“Aida,” Disney Theatrical Productions’ Tony Award-winning romantic musical with music and lyrics by Elton John and Tim Rice, makes its Los Angeles premiere. It stars Simone as a kidnapped Nubian princess, Kelli Fournier as an Egyptian princess and Patrick Cassidy as the soldier they both love.

Now scheduled to disband after its final performance, when it plays a Haydn concert at Esterhazy in Austria in May 2002, the Angeles String Quartet will give its final local concert at the Orange County Performing Arts Center this week. The foursome--violinists Kathleen Lenski and Sara Parkins, violist Brian Dembow and cellist Stephen Erdody--will play Bernard Herrmann’s “Echoes,” the String Quartet by Debussy and Haydn’s Quartet, Opus 77, No. 2.

7:30 pm: Pop Music
In her seven years with the Irish group Cherish the Ladies and in her three solo albums, Detroit-born Cathie Ryan has established herself as one of the leading voices in Celtic music. Her new collection, “Somewhere Along the Road,” was produced by Battlefield Band alumnus John McCusker.
