Fire Destroys Mountain Home; 30 Others at Risk
From Times Wire Reports
Firefighters were trying to protect hundreds of homes and vacation cabins from a mountain wildfire that destroyed one house and damaged several others.
The blaze burned in a steep area near the foot of Bluff Mountain in Pigeon Forge, said Tom Womack, a spokesman for the state Department of Agriculture. The small resort community is about 30 miles from Knoxville in the Smoky Mountains.
“It’s a major fire,” said John Fox, emergency management director for Sevier County. About 30 of some 700 homes, mostly rentals, on the mountain were threatened.
