Another Hotel Add-on
Having just returned from a weekend at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, I could relate to the letter from Richard Barrett (“Charging Ahead With Chain Hotels,” Oct. 28) about extra fees hotels are tacking onto the room charge.
How about this for creative charges--a $4.91 reservation fee. This fee was not explained to me at the time the reservation was made, like the $3.50 energy fee. When I asked about this upon checking out, it was described as a fee for “the time and paperwork handling the reservation and putting the first night deposit on the credit card.” I said this should be explained at the time the reservation is made--or else just raise the cost of the room five bucks so it doesn’t seem so sneaky.
