Criminal charges will not be filed against a woman arrested Sept. 22 on suspicion of selling her infant son to another woman for $1,500, the district attorney’s office said Tuesday.

Prosecutors could not corroborate accusations that Norma Herrera, 38, sold the newborn in exchange for gifts or money, said Sandi Gibbons of the district attorney’s office. Prosecutors also decided not to file charges against the woman who allegedly purchased the baby, she said.

The county will determine where the child will be placed, Gibbons said. Herrera, who apparently has 10 other children living in another country, allegedly told relatives she did not want the baby because she couldn’t care for him, police said. The infant is in “very good health,” authorities said.
