Parents, Students Protest Handling of Sex Assaults
More than 500 parents and students converged on Laguna Creek High School in Elk Grove to protest the handling of two sexual assaults reported on campus last week.
On Wednesday, school officials defended their decision to delay notifying parents until Tuesday afternoon--more than a week after they learned about the assaults. Officials said they had only “sketchy” information until this week.
Police arrested a student and a former student in a June 1 assault reported Sept. 24. Three other students were arrested after allegedly threatening the girl if she testified. Two days later, a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the same room by four or five male students.
