Balandran Powers Lakewood
David Balandran, who has signed with Long Beach State, hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead Lakewood over Cooper City (Fla.), 10-3, Monday in a first-round game of the National Classic tournament at Placentia Champions Park.
Daniel Steward had three hits, scored a run and drove in two runs for Lakewood, No. 9 in The Times’ rankings. The Lancers (13-2) play Westminster La Quinta at 5 today at Cal State Fullerton.

Westminster La Quinta 6, Tucson 2--Ian Stewart hit his eighth home run, a two-run shot in the first inning, for No. 5 La Quinta (13-1). Brian Wason (2-1) struck out six in six innings for La Quinta.
La Puente Bishop Amat 3, Livermore (Calif.) Granada 1--Adam Simons (6-0) gave up three hits and struck out 12 for the second-ranked Lancers (10-2), who play San Diego El Capitan at 2 today at Placentia Champions Park.
Anaheim Esperanza 9, Reed (Nev.) 3--Greg Miller struck out 14 in six innings for the Aztecs (8-5), who play West Hills Chaminade, a 7-3 winner over Sabino (Ariz.), at 7 tonight at Cal State Fullerton.
In other baseball:
Ventura 6, Camarillo 3--Jake Renshaw, a junior right-hander, struck out six, walked none and gave up five hits to upset the eighth-ranked Scorpions (12-3) in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Camarillo High.
Renshaw (2-2) retired the first nine batters and had a shutout until Justin Frash hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
Ventura improved to 4-7-1.
West Covina South Hills 6, Redlands East Valley 0--Steven Romero threw a four-hitter and the Huskies (7-5) upset No. 24 Redlands East Valley (11-3) in the San Gabriel Valley tournament.
Chatsworth 29, Taft 0 (5 innings mercy)--Joe Guntz (5-0) threw a four-hitter for the No. 1 Chancellors (15-0, 4-0) in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth. He didn’t give up a walk in improving his career record to 30-0.
In softball:
Thousand Oaks 6, Paso Robles 0--Mandy Kilionski (1-0) threw a one-hitter and struck out a school-record 18 for the Lancers (5-4-1) in a Best of the West tournament game at Righetti High.
Santa Ana Foothill 1, Anaheim Canyon 0--Caitlin Lowe’s double drove in Chelsea Cantillo to give No. 1 Foothill (13-1) a victory over No. 3 Canyon (14-4) in a Woodbridge tournament quarterfinal.
Irvine Woodbridge 1, Anaheim Loara 0--Brittany Crouch (12-5), pitched a no-hitter and the No. 23 Warriors (14-6) upset the No. 10 Saxons (9-4) in a Woodbridge tournament quarterfinal.
In boys’ golf:
Atascadero 231, Westlake 232, Paso Robles 234, Santa Barbara San Marcos 235--Medalist Travis Bertoni shot an even-par 72 for Paso Robles in the Lompoc tournament at La Purisima. Jeremy Gearhart shot 73 to lead No. 6 Atascadero and Taylor Neal shot 73 for No. 7 Westlake.
