Koffler Takes Over Artesia Football Team

Matt Koffler, who last season guided Rosemead to the Southern Section Division VII semifinals, has been hired as football coach at Lakewood Artesia.

Koffler was selected San Gabriel Valley coach of the year in 2001 after Rosemead finished 10-3, 5-0 in the Mission Valley League.

The former USC quarterback replaces Jason Arnold, who coached Artesia for four seasons. The Pioneers last season finished 2-7, 2-5 in the Suburban League.

In other coaching news:

* Randy Wright has resigned as girls’ water polo coach at Irvine Northwood to concentrate on the boys’ program, and Mark Foster has resigned as the Timber Wolves’ girls’ soccer coach to focus on coaching club soccer.

* Rich Sanders, the boys’ basketball coach at Westlake the last two seasons, has resigned to spend more time with his family. Sanders had a 26-24 record at Westlake. The Warriors will have eight players returning next season.

* Cerritos has hired Dusan Ancich, son of longtime St. Paul Coach Marijon Ancich, as football coach. Ancich assisted his father as defensive coordinator at St. Paul the last four years after being a graduate assistant for one season at New Mexico Highlands.
