A Thousand Oaks man has pleaded guilty to killing a neighbor’s dog with a pellet gun because he said the animal’s barking irritated him.

Gerald Thieman, 37, could face up to 180 days in jail on one count of felony animal cruelty, Deputy Dist. Atty. Tom Connors said.

“I think it’s a fair outcome,” he said.

Thieman was arrested Feb. 14, two weeks after a 2-year-old beagle belonging to a family across the street died from a pellet round. X-rays showed the dog had been shot at least three other times with lead pellets.

Thieman will be sentenced May 15.
