4.4-Magnitude Quake Reported Off the Coast
From Staff and Wire Reports
A 4.4-magnitude earthquake occurred just off the Humboldt County coast, 21 miles southwest of Eureka, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The moderate quake, at 5:43 p.m. Sunday, was centered at a depth of 18 miles and caused neither damage nor injuries.
The area is near the so-called triple junction where the northern end of the San Andreas Fault intersects with two tectonic plate boundaries, the North American and the Gorda, one of the state’s most seismically active regions.
