Deputy Denies Assault at Public Defender’s Party

A sheriff’s deputy has pleaded innocent to charges that he assaulted people at the notoriously rowdy public defender’s annual holiday party last year.
Cesar De Santos is charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery and one count of vandalism after allegedly hitting and pushing people and ripping a gold chain from a man’s neck at the Dec. 14 party.
De Santos, who has been with the department for four years, did not appear in court, but his attorney, Paul Meltzer, entered the plea Thursday.
De Santos was charged after a police investigation.
