A robber was shot and killed by a security guard in a casino after firing shots into a crowd of gamblers and injuring a worker.

“He was just shooting randomly at everything that moved,” Las Vegas police spokesman Tirso Dominguez said Saturday. “It was quite a big scene.”

Police said the gunman, who was not immediately identified, robbed a change carousel at the Boulder Station Hotel-Casino, a popular off-Strip casino, while brandishing a pistol about 11 p.m. Friday.

The gunman fled out the front doors of the casino, but for some reason turned around and went back through the casino, firing indiscriminately, police said.

Dominguez said police were unsure how many shots were fired.

A casino employee tried to subdue the robber and was shot at least once. The employee was in fair condition at University Medical Center, a supervisor said.

Police said the gunman then knocked a casino customer to the floor. She was treated for minor injuries at a hospital. The names of the injured were not released.

A casino security officer then shot the gunman, who was taken to UMC, where he died.
